論文概要:This study addresses the limitations of renewable energy performance and its impact on public grids under varying power supply systems. The global shift towards renewable energy is driven by the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance energy self-sufficiency, and mitigate the environmental impacts of fossil fuels. Japan's energy self-sufficiency rate, currently at 8%, underscores the urgency of this transition. Variable Renewable Energy (VRE) sources like photovoltaics (PV) and wind power are pivotal to this transformation but pose challenges due to their fluctuating generation characteristics, impacting grid stability.

The research investigates the interaction between renewable energy, power demand, grid operations, and energy storage systems to maximize VRE integration. Utilizing the EnergyPLAN model, the study evaluates VRE performance across multiple Japanese regions, considering energy demand, generation capacity, and storage potential. It identifies the critical thresholds for renewable energy penetration, the effectiveness of pumped hydro storage systems (PHS), and the economic viability of integrating VRE into existing grids.

Findings highlight regional variations in renewable energy absorption capacity and the role of PHS in reducing thermal power dependency. The study also examines the impacts of demand-side changes, as evidenced during the COVID-19 pandemic, on electricity consumption and renewable energy curtailment. Policy implications include optimizing grid management strategies and advancing infrastructure for sustainable energy development.
